Non Wireless Networking

Core Area

Overview

The core area of the network is the communication among the various Major Geogrpahic Service Areas (Mgsa), and traffic to/from the internet. Each Mgsa will communicate with the core via eBGP using private AS numbers. The core will communicate with the internet via eBGP as well, using a public AS number.

Outbound links

We will have two 50Gbps links to the internet in an active/passive configuration.

Edge Areas

Overview

Each Mgsa will be be an OSPF domain, with one OSPF area 0 per Mgsa. They will be used to allow communication among aggregation points, and to the core.

Functionality that lives in the backbone area will include things such as:

1) RADIUS

2) Captive Portal

3) Quality Of service / traffic shaping

4) VLAN management

Zeroshell.net has been selected to provide these infrastructure services.

Outbound Links

Each edge will have 2 10GBPS connections to the core in an active/passive configuration.

Aggregation Area

Overview

Each aggregation point in a Mgsa will serve as a termination point for 1000 802.11n/802.11y local loop connections. Each aggregation point will be an OSPF area. It will be used to allow communication among mesh nodes, and to the parent OSPF area 0 (backbone).

Outbound Links

Each aggregation point will have 2 1GBPS connection to the edge aggregation point in an active/passive configuration.

Local loop

Overview

Outbound Link

Each local loop will be two 10mbps connections in an active/passive configuration to an aggregation point.
